The United States Power Squadron is a National Boating Safety Organizaion with local Squadrons across the nation.

"Organized in 1914, USPS is a non profit, educational organization dedicated to making boating safer and more enjoyable by teaching classes in seamanship, navigation and related subjects. Our members are boating families who contribute to their communities by promoting safe boating through education. We enjoy participating with our fellow members on the water and in the classroom. USPS has nearly 40,000 members organized into over 400 squadrons across the country and in some US territories. USPS is America's largest non-profit boating organization and has been honored by three US presidents for its civic contributions."

The Portland Power and Sail Squadron and the Vancouver Power and Sail Squadron, even without Mark at the helm or podium, offers one of the most comprehensive and complete Mariner Educational Programs available to mariners in the United States.  All the instructors are volunteers who dedicate a great amount of personal time and efforts to be able to offer the courses.  All courses are free to USPS members, only the course materials (books, equipment) are required to be purchased.  This is an incredible program, and USPS Membership does not only provide access to free education.
